For a long time a secret method of Forum owners to make activity "seem" to be there is using fake profiles to post. Do you do this? I personally don't because I'm too lazy. :p

I personally thought about completing such an action before, but then I realized that I would have to do it on a daily basis and that would just be too much work for me. So, I just hired people from different websites to complete posts in exchange for cash, then on other forums sites I completed daily forum posting exchanges with people. That's about it.

I do have extra accounts on my site for testing and back up encase something happens to my main admin account. But I've never used them to increase site activity, if found out it just kills your rep.

I did it on my first site, but once you have staff who can start seeing IPs they would catch on pretty quickly unless you have dynamic IP or run a VPN and make sure to switch it all the time. I don't think there is necessarily a great benefit to doing it either.

It's too much work, honestly. I tried it, but I'd rather just do post exchanges with real people.

I personally disagree with using this method simply because it can be caught onto nowadays a bit. It can have a negative impact than a positive one on your site if you are caught doing so and also it can be quite deceitful and giving a false impression to real members that join your community. I can see the benefits, but it the cons outweigh it if you were to potentially get caught doing so. So it isn't really worth it in my opinion. If you can provide interesting content then you shouldn't need to do this to begin with.

I agree. It's totally dishonest and as you say, it confuses real members. Also, this thing is similar to when members lie. For instance, they might say, "I've visited the opera in Vienna.". Sure, yeah, right. Again, it's a thing which misleads people.
